Overview
The UAMS Translational Research Institute’s Clinical Trials Innovation Unit provides support for all types of human-based research studies including investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored studies. The purpose of the Clinical Trials Innovation Unit is to support high quality multi-site research studies and streamline the trial start-up processes.
The Clinical Trials Innovation Unit serves as a liaison between Translational Research Institute hub researchers, researchers from other institutions, and industry sponsors to guide researchers throughout the clinical trial process to accelerate approvals, contract execution, and study implementation.
Consisting of two teams, the Research Finance Team (RFT) and the Clinical Research Team (CRT), Clinical Trials Innovation Unit staff have expertise in feasibility analyses, protocol development management, Medicare coverage analyses, budget development and negotiations, regulatory management, study coordinator and nursing support. The Clinical Trials Innovation Unit also works collaboratively with other groups on campus, such as attorneys for research contracts and institutional compliance offices. The Clinical Trials Innovation Unit coordinates protocol submissions to central and local institutional review boards (IRBs), providing a single contact point of contact to enhance communication and reduce redundancy.
Pediatric research is conducted in the Pediatric Clinical Research Unit (PCRU) within the Arkansas Children’s Hospital main hospital building. The Pediatric Clinical Research Unit supports phases I-IV clinical trials in multiple therapeutic areas. The Regulatory Compliance Team focuses on day-to-day management and overall coordination of the human research regulatory compliance environment.
