Managing COVID-19 requires accurate up to date data on new cases, contact tracing and case management. Managing epidemic diseases is a core function of health systems in many low and middle income countries, such as recent outbreaks of Ebola in West Africa, and Dengue, Zika and cholera in many countries. This has spurred the development of health information systems to capture data in community and health facility settings and to report data to public health authorities and contact tracing teams.
