The Translational Research Institute’s (TRI) Clinical Trials Innovation Unit (CTIU) provides services and support for all types of human-based research studies including grant-supported investigator initiated studies and industry sponsored studies. The purpose of the CTIU is to support high quality multi-site clinical research studies and streamline the clinical trial start-up processes.
The CTIU serves as a liaison between TRI hub researchers and outside entities, including the CTSA Trial Innovation Centers, researchers from other institutions, and industry sponsors to facilitate relationships and identify investigators across a wide range of disease specific expertise. The CTIU staff will guide investigators throughout the clinical trial process, as necessary and appropriate, to accelerate approvals and contract execution.
Consisting of two teams, the Research Finance Team (RFT) and the Clinical Research Team (CRT), the CTIU staff have expertise in feasibility analyses, protocol development management, Medicare coverage analyses, budget development and negotiations, regulatory management, study coordinator and nursing support. The CTIU also works collaboratively with other groups on campus, such as attorneys for the contract unit and institutional compliance offices. This ensures efficient processing and implementation of all clinical trial research studies conducted at UAMS. The CTIU also coordinates protocol submissions to central and local IRBs, providing a single contact point to enhance communication and reduce redundancy.
