Investigators with complex projects involving multiple resources and services may request the assistance of a project manager. To promote efficient project development and resource utilization, the Clinical Trials Innovation Unit offers investigators a flexible, team-based approach. This approach serves as an efficient means to coordinate the work of multiple technical experts focused on a single project while allowing these experts to simultaneously work on multiple projects. Project management is used extensively to develop protocols where the expertise and input of many people with unique expertise is required. This team driven approach relies heavily on common work sharing tools, teamwork, communication, and accountability. The team is led by the investigator in conjunction with the project manager. The CTIU project managers use standard and adaptive project management techniques to provide tailored assistance to meet the needs of the project and the individual investigator.
The CTIU project managers assist investigators with:
- Developing realistic project milestones and timelines
- Assigning work to various team members
- Tracking completion of tasks
- Conducting team meetings
- Motivating team members
- Protocol development
- Consent form preparation
- IRB submissions
